CONTENT STRATEGY / CREATIVE DIRECTION

University of Denver Magazine

The power of DU, in the palm of your hand

Alumni of the University of Denver are by no means a one-size-fits-all group. Ranging in age from 22-92, their passions, interests — and geographic locations — span the globe.

Connecting with them in ways that are relevant, meaningful and inspiring is no small feat. Since 2000, University of Denver Magazine has achieved this by “keeping DU close” through impactful storytelling that celebrates its students, alumni and mission.

Approach

Production of DU Magazine began via deep collaboration with the university’s Editorial Board to identify each issue’s theme and key stories. Once identified and vetted, the communications and creative teams began work on bringing them to life for both print and digital editions.

As a member of the magazine’s Editorial Board and leader of DU’s in-house creative team, I was responsible for both identifying story content and defining the visual strategy for each issue to align with its unique theme, message and tone.

Insight

Despite distance, demeanor or disposition, DU alumni rejoice in reading about their alma mater.

Impact

Published quarterly, DU Magazine connects with a global network of more than 150,000 alumni, donors, students, peers and community leaders via its award-winning print and online editions.

During my time as Creative Director, we also successfully transitioned to a new print provider, maintaining quality while reducing overall costs for each 100,000+ print edition by over 20%.
